7 Fun End of the Year Math Activities

1. End of the Year Math Activity: Scavenger Hunt

Who doesn’t love a good old scavenger hunt, am I right? Set up a scavenger hunt around the school or classroom, complete with math problems to solve for clues to the next location. For your kindergarteners, keep it simple with counting and comparing items in the classroom. First graders can tackle basic addition and subtraction problems, while second graders can level up with a mix of math challenges. It’s an interactive way to keep those math skills sharp while having a blast!

2. Math Board Games

Here’s a fun end-of-the-year math activity to get those creative juices flowing: Have students team up in pairs or small groups to create their very own math board games! With dice, playing cards, or spinners as their tools, they can design the game board and spice it up with engaging addition and subtraction challenges to conquer. It’s a fantastic way to blend learning and fun as the school year winds down! But if the thought of crafting their own games feels a tad hard, fear not! You can still infuse your classroom with some math-themed fun by whipping up a collection of exciting games for your students to enjoy. Check out these fantastic free blank game boards by KinderCrafting—they’re the perfect canvas for endless math gaming adventures!

3. Summer Math Graph

Your kiddos may be bouncing off the walls with excitement for those upcoming lazy summer days and ice cream runs. So why not tap into that excitement with a fun math graph? Start by asking your students what their all-time favorite summer treat is – I’m talking ice cream, popsicles, maybe even some snow cones! Then, turn that tasty data into a class graph. It’s a sweet way to sneak in some math skills while keeping things fun and interactive. And hey, why stop there? Let’s kick it up a notch and have the kiddos craft their very own cute ice cream truck toppers to celebrate the sweet taste of summer in style!

4. Math Storybooks

Another engaging idea is to have students create their own math story books. Start by reading some math-themed books aloud to spark their creativity. Then, provide them with fill-in-the-blank story templates to help them craft their own tales. Encourage them to incorporate addition and subtraction problems that the characters must solve throughout the story. Once their stories are complete, have a sharing session where students can proudly present their math storybooks to the class. It’s a fun and educational way to combine math and storytelling!

5. Summer Glyph

At the end of the school year, you might be looking for an easy-to-prep activity for your students. Enter the “Beary Excited for Summer Math Glyph!” In this activity, students answer a series of summer-themed questions, with each answer corresponding to a piece of a bear craft. Once completed, students will have an adorable summertime bear and you’ll have the perfect opportunity to lead a data discussion. It’s a fun and engaging way to wrap up the school year!

6. End of the Year Activity: Beach Ball Math Review

Use a beach ball for this math review activity! Write different math problems on a beach ball, including a mix of review and new material. But here’s the twist, also include some easy to do exercises such as 10 jumping jacks. Then, have students toss the ball back and forth. Whoever catches it must solve the problem. If they land on an exercise, the whole class must do it. This fun and interactive game not only keeps students engaged but also reinforces their math skills in a playful way. Plus, it’s a great way to add some physical activity to your math lessons!

For extra fun, throw in some actual board games that reinforce math skills. This way, your students can review and practice while having a blast with their friends.
