A Beary Cute Summer Glyph Activity Your Students Will Love

You know that weird stretch at the end of the school year? When the big tests are done, routines are loosening up, and the countdown to summer is on? That’s exactly when I love to sneak in something fun—but still purposeful.

If you’re looking for an engaging way to review math and data skills and give your students a fun way to celebrate summer, let me introduce you to one of my favorite low-prep activities: the Summer Glyph Activity (or as I like to call it: the “Beary Cute” glyph).

What’s a Math Glyph Anyway?

If you’ve never used a glyph before, here’s the quick version: it’s part art, part math, and part data collection. Students follow directions based on their personal preferences or answers to questions—and those choices determine how their glyph looks. Then, once everyone finishes, the class analyzes the data to see trends, compare results, and answer questions.

So yes—it’s math, reading comprehension, and art all rolled into one.

And did I mention it’s adorable?

Why This Bear-Themed Summer Glyph Activity is a Hit!

This activity hits that perfect sweet spot: it’s fun enough to feel like a treat for your students, but you’ll still get in some meaningful academic work.

Here’s what makes it a great pick:

  • Easy to prep – Just print and go!
  • Engaging – Students LOVE customizing their bears based on their summer plans.
  • Built-in learning – The included data worksheet helps students reflect on the class’s answers, build bar graphs, and discuss results.

Creative extension – Want to keep the activity going? There’s a writing piece included so students can write about their bear or their summer plans.

You’ll get those proud teacher feels when you see how much math talk this activity sparks!
